SOLARI: 300 years of history between innovation and resilience

Our story told in the magazine of the Chamber of Commerce of Udine and Pordenone

We are proud that the magazine Unioncamere Economia & Imprese has chosen to tell our story: a three-century-long story, which began in 1725 in Pesariis, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, and is now more alive than ever in our headquarters in Udine.

We at SOLARI are celebrating 300 years of activity with the awareness of representing one of the longest-running industrial realities in Italy, but also one of the most dynamic and future-oriented. In these three centuries, we have transformed ourselves from a watch factory to a globally recognized technological reality, a leader in public information systems, with over 3,500 systems installed worldwide and 285 collaborators who contribute passionately to our journey every day.

On the pages of the magazine we had the opportunity to retrace the fundamental stages of our journey: from the invention of the flip clock, which has become a global icon of design and functionality, to the current digital and smart solutions for mobility and public communication.

Over these 300 years, great figures have also left their mark on our development: think of Remigio and Fermo Solari, who with their vision transformed the company into an international reference; Massimo Vignelli, master of modern design, who with his creativity helped define an aesthetic that still represents us today, or the great architect Gino Valle who won two Compasso d’Oro with SOLARI.

We have also faced difficult times. In the 1990s, a profound crisis put our future at risk. It was thanks to the determination and vision of our president Massimo Paniccia, who believed in the value of SOLARI and took it over, that we were able to relaunch ourselves. Since then, we have invested in innovation, in people and in a corporate identity capable of combining local roots and international projection.

Today we are a solid joint stock company, with a clear and ambitious strategic vision. For us, innovating means continuing to listen to the changing world, without ever forgetting who we are and where we come from.

The 300 years are not just an anniversary: they are the living testimony of a company that, through generations and transformations, continues to build the future while remaining faithful to its values.
