SOLARI: 300 Years of Innovation and Resilience

Our story featured in the magazine of the Udine and Pordenone Chamber of Commerce

We are proud that Unioncamere Economia & Imprese has chosen to share our story a journey spanning three centuries, which began in 1725 in Pesariis, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and continues today with renewed vitality at our headquarters in Udine.

At SOLARI, we celebrate 300 years of activity with the awareness of being one of Italy’s longest-standing industrial enterprises, yet also one of the most forward-thinking and dynamic. Over these three centuries, we have evolved from a clock manufacturing workshop into a globally recognized technology company, a leader in public information systems, with more than 3,500 installations worldwide and 285 dedicated professionals who contribute to our mission every day.

In the pages of the magazine, we retrace the key milestones in our history from the invention of the split-flap display clock, which became an international icon of design and functionality, to today’s digital and smart solutions for mobility and public communication.

Over these 300 years, great individuals have shaped our journey. Visionaries like Remigio and Fermo Solari transformed the company into a global reference point. Renowned designer Massimo Vignelli helped define an aesthetic that still represents us today, while architect Gino Valle brought prestige and innovation, earning two Compasso d’Oro awards in collaboration with SOLARI.

We have also faced challenging times. In the 1990s, a serious crisis threatened our survival. It was thanks to the determination and vision of our current President, Massimo Paniccia who believed in SOLARI’s potential and took ownership of the company that we were able to restart. Since then, we have focused on innovation, on our people, and on building a corporate identity that bridges local roots with global ambition.

Today, we are a solid joint-stock company with a clear and ambitious strategic vision. For us, innovation means continuously listening to a changing world, without ever losing sight of who we are and where we come from.

Our 300-year milestone is more than just an anniversary; it is a living testament to an enterprise that, through generations and transformations, continues to shape the future while staying true to its core values.
